Counting On (Stage 3 and Stage 4)

 

Counting On professional learning workshops in Northern Sydney Region are well underway for 2005. Information for participating schools’ can be found in the Professional Learning section of this site.

 


Information about the Counting On professional development program is available from the DET

Counting On web site.  This includes the Learning Framework in Number (LFIN), learning activities

and evaluations.

 

Copies of the Counting On professional development package from NSW DET (CD-ROM of

teaching activities, assessment kit, assessment schedule, 40 page manual explaining the program

and the Learning Framework ) may be purchased for $80.00 plus postage and handling from

DET sales.

 

Fractions

 


Fractions: pikelets and lamingtons is a syllabus support document (64 pages) from NSW DET,

Professional Support and Curriculum Directorate.  It contains lesson plans that emphasise the use

of sharing to introduce fractions, combined with examples of students’ recordings.  It also has a

CD-ROM with four sample learning objects.

Measurement Strand

 

Teaching measurement: Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 is a syllabus support document (141 pages)

 from NSW DET, Professional Support and Curriculum Directorate.  It contains an extensive bank of

lesson ideas and lesson plans that emphasises the growth of students’ knowledge of the attributes

of length, area, volume and capacity, and mass and an understanding of how units of measurement

are repeated and counted.

 

·       Distribution to NSW DET primary schools: 2003. Term 4, week 8

·       Cost for additional copies: $23.00

·       Additional copies can be purchased from: DET Sales

Angles

 


Teaching about angles: Stage 2 is a syllabus support document (60 pages) from NSW DET,

Professional Support and Curriculum Directorate.  It is a collection of practical lessons designed

to assist students to understand what we mean by angles.  The book contains a teaching

sequence of 15 lessons (including worksheet masters), an explanation of teaching materials

needed, sample student assessment tasks and a glossary.
